South Island :: New Zealand
Made from carefully selected vineyards in Marlborough – New Zealand’s pre-eminent wine region.
The grapes are grown with soil knowledge and cultivation methods passed down from our Māori forbearers. This gift of knowledge and rich, unspoiled lands create wines of personality and purity.
The unique indigenous story surrounding Kono wine, along with the simplicity of the label and the quality of the product, are key attributes.
Kono vineyards are certified by Sustainable Winegrowing New Zealand (SWNZ) and CEMARS (certified emissions measurement and reduction scheme) certified. We see this as integral to our values of kaitiakitanga — working with the environment without compromise.
True to Māori culture, we have a strong spiritual connection to everything we grow and a responsibility to ensure our land is passed onto future generations in pristine condition.
Picked with state-of-the-art machine harvesters the grapes are gently pressed in the winery to obtain beautiful, clean juice with the harder pressings being oxidised to combat their phenolics before being combined with the free run. The juice is settled very clear over up to 72 hours (if needed) then racked into stainless steel tanks for warming and inoculation with selected, aromatic yeasts. A range of yeasts are used to help promote complexity and the ferments are carried out quite cool, around 10-13 deg.C to help preserve freshness.
A brilliant pale green
Fresh and vibrant fruit driven nose bursting with crisp grapefruit, passionfruit, melon and citrus.
On the palate there is a wealth of fresh tropical fruits as well as herbaceous and cut grass flavours. Lots of natural acidity is balanced by a hint of residual sweetness that helps to highlight and give length to the core of the fruit. Long and finishing dry, this mouthwatering wine is a classic Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc.
