The estate is located in the hills south of Empoli and traversed by the Rio di Camerata. It has been in the Bettarini family since 1948. In 1999, Ilaria and Rolando Bettarini took over the operations. The consulting winemaker, Emiliano Falsini, is fast-gaining recognition for his work in Tuscany, Umbria, Emilia-Romagna, Basilicata, Piedmont and Sicily. Fattoria di Piazzano wines are earning critical acclaim in leading wine publications in Italy and abroad.
Maceration on the skins for at least 20 days with frequent daily remontage. Alcoholic fermentation with wild yeasts in glazed concrete tanks at 30-32C; malolactic fermentation.
In french oak barriques for 12/15 months; further refining in bottle minimum 6 months.
Intense red colour tending to violaceus.
Hints of very mature forest fruits embellished with hints of cloves, aromatic herbs and sweet violet, the slight presence of oak is perfectly integrated into the scent.
Seductive with soft velvety tannins.
