Morellino di Scansano
Tuscany :: Italy
Morisfarms comprises two estates covering 476 hectares. 420 Hectares are located near Massa Marittima (Fattoria Poggetti). This estate’s vineyards comprise 37 hectares and lie within the Monteregio di Massa Marittima DOC. The remaining 56 hectares are located on another property called, Poggio la Mozza. Its vineyards cover 33 hectares and are classified under the Morellino di Scansano DOC. Both are owned by the Moris family who have been farmers here for generations (their current focus on viticulture is a relatively new one). Fattoria Poggetti is the original property and a most beautiful spot. It has its own wild boar enclosure, and breathtaking views on the sea. On a clear day you can see as far as Elba and Corsica beyond. The vineyards are planted with 66% Sangiovese (almost all replanted with clones since 1990), 15% Cabernet Sauvignon, about 10% Syrah, and some Merlot. For the past 30 years, the farms have been run by Adolfo Parentini, who married into the family. In 1988 he was joined by consulting oenologist Attilio Pagli, and by viticulturist Andrea Paoletti in 1996. Adolfo’s son Giulio is the current managing director of Morisfarms. For the past 20 years, Morisfarms has been recognized as a pioneer of quality wine production in the Maremma.
