Agricola Punica is a joint venture between Cantina Sociale di Santadi, Tenuta San Guido, Antonello Pilloni and Giacomo Tachis. In 2002, Agricola Punica acquired a 370-acre estate including two vineyards, Barrua and Narcao. The estate is located near the town of Santadi in the Sulcis region of southern Sardinia. The sloping terrain has clayey, sandy and calcareous soil of a medium consistency.
Local growers in Sardinia are rediscovering native varietals like Carignano, Cannonau, Torbato, Bovale and Vermentino that produce distinctive, plush, and densely fruited wines.
The 25 hectare Barrua vineyard is planted to 10 hectares of 40-50 year old Carignano vines and 15 hectares of younger Carignano, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot vines.

Carignano 60% - Cabernet Sauvignon 10% - Cabernet Franc 10% - Syrah 10% - Merlot 10%

The must is fermented with the skins at a temperature of between 25 and 30°C. It is periodically pumped over to facilitate the solubilization of the compounds present in the grapes. Malolactic fermentation confers roundness to the wine.
