Hawkes Bay Gimblett Gravels Syrah
North Island :: New Zealand
Trinity Hill was established to produce world class wines from the classic grape varieties, using the spiritual homes of these varieties as inspiration. To this end President John Hancock and winemaker Warren Gibson have between them spent more than 70 vintages throughout the world soaking up inspiration. All Trinity Hill wines are produced with utmost care and respect for the grapes and with minimum intervention. Trinity Hill consistently delivers quality wines in all three ranges: Homage, Gimblett Gravels and Hawkes Bay. Trinity Hill is noted for excellence in all their wine.
The Gimblett Gravels winegrowing area is a small sub-region in the Hawkes Bay of New Zealand defined by a very stony soil type. Careful harvest timing enabled the range of vineyard sites to exhibit the fruit purity and exuberance typical of Gimblett Gravels Syrah. Hand harvested from a range of individual sites and clones and then fermented separately before blending post-fermentation.
The wine was aged for 14 months in a mixture of new and older French oak 225 litre barriques. The barrel ageing regime utilizes the philosophy more typically used in the making of Pinot Noir and includes barrel stirring of the lees and very minimal racking.
Deep and youthful vibrant crimson colour
Wild raspberry, blackberry, cracked pepper and clove aromas predominate.
Powerful and balanced ripe tannins give the wine great structure. Oak plays a supporting role with the wine living on pure fruit expression. The purity combined with refreshing natural acidity allows for the potential to age the wine.
Fantastic with red meat dishes but especially good with game, particularly with duck or venison.
