Situated in the region of Maremma Toscana, the PoggioVerrano vineyards cover 27 hectares, with a density of 6700 vines per hectare trained in low spurred cordon. Rocky soil of calcareous and clayey nature, at an altitude of between 170 and 300 metres above sea level, south-southwest exposure and 15 km from the Mediterranean sea. These are ideal conditions for indigenous varietals such as Sangiovese and Alicante together with Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Merlot. The winery is the other important quality component. Built following the gravity flow principle, it is fully underground to respect the surroundings and covered by vines. In its building modality and shape – as shown by the long passage crossing the cellar all the way from the entrance – borrows from the architectural harmony typical of the Etruscan style.

45% Merlot, 35% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Sangiovese, 10% Cabernet Franc.

Selective hand harvest is followed by temperature controlled fermentation and slow maceration in small stainless steel vats with gentle “punching down the cap”. After the malolactic fermentation, the wines are left to mature in oak, and then further aged in bottles before being released. During the whole process both grapes and wine move by gravity.
