Augier Cognac L'Océanique

:: France

https://www.cognac-augier.com/en/

Estate::

Established in 1643 by a wine merchant, Augier is the oldest of the cognac houses.
Its history is one of constant experimentation at a time when the region was discovering the potential of its cognac eaux-de-vie, from unearthing grape varieties and local terroirs to learning about new distillation methods. By limiting production, the company guaranteed outstanding quality and
traceability, evidenced by blending records that date back over a hundred years.  The company’s integrity and values, acknowledged throughout the region, earned it a reputation as cognac’s “White House” or a byword for probity. Keen to safeguard this heritage, we have rededicated Augier to its original calling: to strive for typicality, cultivate neglected terroirs and grapes, and create cognacs of singular character.

Grape varieties::

Ugni Blanc

Vinification::

A distillation method that brings subtlety and purity by removing the fine lees naturally. L’Océanique is a cognac displaying maritime influences that originates from the Bois Ordinaires terroir on the Island of Oléron. It has an appealing mineral streak and a hint of the sea.

appearance::

Bright lemon yellow

nose::

The nose displays maritime influences enhanced by subtle notes of mature citrus fruit, such as ripe lemon. On swirling, mineral and marine notes can be detected.

taste::

Brisk and direct with aromas of pink-grapefruit peel with a final impression of delicate spices and a hint of mild tobacco.

Food pairing::

Conger eel singed by blowtorch with roasted buckwheat seeds and sea greens. We wanted something bold with a highly distinctive flavour to accompany such a pure-tasting cognac. The eel’s smoky, burnt taste enhances the mineral character of the spirit, underlining its hint of mild tobacco.
